Jakar
Jakar Dzong: Jakar Dzong was built in the 14th century. When a
group of lamas were meeting to select a site for the goemba a
white bird suddenly flew into the air. This omen led the monks
to pick this hill. Jakar Dzong means “Castle of the White Bird”.
This is the largest dzong in Bhutan with a circumference of
1,500m. One can enjoy a great view of Choskhor Valley from the
courtyard.
Wandicholing Palace: built in 1857 on the battle camp of Jigme
Namgyal, penlop of Trongsa. His son King Ugyen chose it as his
main residence. The second king also used it, but the third king
moved court to Punakha. There are five water driven prayerwheels
by the palace gates.
