Rangste Ney
This giant cave in Samste district, southern Bhutan is a sacred
place of Guru Rimpoche. The trek starts at Chengmari. A large
cave which could hold a thousand people has a small tunnel in
the rear with stupa- like formations in the rock leads to the
Cave of the Khandomas(angels). The rocks at the entrance to the
first cave are red and shaped like tounges of fire, evidence of
Guru Rimpoche manifesting as Dorji Drolley here. Pilgrims offer
butter lamps before entering the cave. The awe inspiring caves
show no sign of being damaged by visitors.
Starting at Chengmari a hard steep trek of one day leads to
Lamjee and Gowchu villages. The next day climb to Deorali
Pass(snow covered) arriving at the Sherpa village of Yoekha in
the late afternoon. Continue on to Rangste village. The next
morning after a hard descent of almost two hours one reaches
Rangste Ney.
