Punakha
Hongtsho Goemba
Ngawang Choegyal (cousin of Drukpa Kunley), established the
goemba in the 15th century. The goemba lies just below Hongtsho
Village at 2890m. Trashigang Goemba can be seen across the
valley. After Hongtsho Village one reaches Dochu la Pass at
3140m with its incredible view, many prayer flags, and chorten.
Chimi Lhakhang
Chimi Lhakhang
built by Drukpa Kunley in 1499 to subdue the
Demoness of Dochu la. After a 20 minute walk from the road one
can enter the goemba and see statues of Drukpa Kunley and his
dog Sachi, the Shabdrung, Sakyamuni, and Chenrenzig. The small
chorten on the altar was made Drukpa Kunley.
